Introducing a local way to benchmark your sustainable business practices.

Maine Businesses for Sustainability has worked together with Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences to provide Maine businesses with a tool to benchmark sustainability. The Tool is designed to help you learn innovative ways to save money, expand your bottom line and grow your business through sustainable business practices.

You do not need to be a “green” business to participate and we encourage all businesses to take advantage of this opportunity. The Sustainability Benchmarking Tool includes a free membership to Maine Businesses for Sustainability.

With the Tool, you will find opportunities for:

• Increasing Consumer Goodwill;
• Strengthening your Community Base;
• Expanding Market Share; and,
• Gaining important insights into how you can improve operational efficiency while reducing your carbon footprint.

So what exactly is the Tool?

The Sustainability Benchmarking Tool is a web-based survey that let's you benchmark your current sustainability and learn about sustainable business practices. The questions are broken down into categories, including Finances & Governance, Employee Relations, Community Engagement, and the Environment. Each question provides you with information on why it is important to a sustainable business.

When you submit the Tool, you instantly receive a Sustainability Snapshot that analyzes your current practices and lists resources to improve your efforts. Our emphasis on local resources ensures you become more sustainable in a sustainable way. We are continually improving our resource list and encourage local businesses to submit their company to be listed as a resource.

We will use the data to fuel Maine's Sustainability Index. The Index will include graphical representations of the anonymous data we collect from the Tool and will help educate about sustainability in Maine. Who will use the Tool? Legislators interested in fostering specific policies; consultants looking at specific industry trends and business practices; educators and students; and, the general public who might be interested in what steps Maine businesses are taking to become more sustainable.

Every member who uses the Tool can take advantage of consulting services through Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences. A member of their team will go over the questionnaire with you and give you insight into where you can improve your sustainable business practices, creating a sustainability path for performance improvement.

Interested in showing off your score?

MBS will craft a unique Sustainability Story based on your individual sustainable business practices. You can use this story in all of your marketing, promotion, employee engagement, and other activities to leverage your participation.

All of our consulting and marketing services allow you to display a unique Scoring Stamp based on your score.

We have partnered with Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences for our Sustainability Benchmarking Program. For more than 40 years, Manomet has worked with industries, governments and communities to develop a more sustainable world.
